ACT Prep: Test Day Materials Checklist and Arrival Strategy
What to Bring: The Essential Checklist
Bring: (1) Ticket or confirmation number, (2) Photo ID, (3) Pencils (two #2 pencils, sharpened), (4) Eraser, (5) Calculator (allowed on Math section; check ACT guidelines for approved models), (6) Watch (non-smartwatch), (7) Water bottle, (8) Snack for break (granola bar, banana). Don't bring: phones, smartwatches, headphones, scratch paper (they provide it), books, study materials. Pack the night before in a checklist format so you don't forget anything on test day morning.
Pro tip: Arrive 30 minutes early so you have time to settle, use the bathroom, and mentally prepare without rushing. Rushing on test morning increases anxiety and hurts performance.

Schedule: (1) Wake up with enough time for a normal breakfast (2-3 hours before test). (2) Arrive at test center 30 minutes early. (3) Check in, get your seat assignment. (4) Sit quietly for 10 minutes; breathe deeply and visualize success. (5) Review your strongest section briefly (not new material, just reminders). This calm, prepared arrival sets a positive tone for the entire test and reduces test-day anxiety.
Avoid: cramming on test morning, arriving late, skipping breakfast, checking your phone anxiously. These behaviors increase stress without improving your score. Trust your preparation and focus on calm execution.
The Break Strategy
The ACT has a 10-minute break between Reading and Science (or between specific sections depending on test day schedule). Use it: (1) Use the bathroom. (2) Eat your snack and drink water. (3) Stretch briefly. (4) Take three deep breaths and center yourself mentally. (5) Use any remaining time to review nothing—just rest your brain. Don't spend break time reviewing material; this increases anxiety. Instead, calm your mind so you enter Science fresh.
Many students' performance drops in Science because they didn't use break time well. A 10-minute rest and snack can dramatically improve your Science focus.
